forsaken

I am poured out like water and all my bones are out of joint. My heart has turned to wax and has melted away within me. My strength is dried up like a potsherd and my tongue sticks to the roof of my mouth.

You lay me in the dust of death.

Father, I'm ready, why can’t we finish this?
the son. the arm. the face for that which has none.

"When the Doctor first arrived here the people celebrated him and held his soldiers in the highest regard. There was no word of atrocities in our ears and though secluded we felt pride in our land and our rulers. All that we knew was around us in our little part of the Black Forrest and this new comer, the Doctor, brought new wonders of machinery with him. We prided ourselves on his welcome, wanting nothing more than to show our respect and loyalties. Quickly our joy turned to ash in our mouths as the soldiers began to build large, strange holding pens of twisted metal, akin to that which held cattle but with higher fences and cruelly sharpened razor wire on top.

It was after these bizarre structures were completed that the first groups of destitute and forsaken people began arriving by the railway cars. Herded like sheep they were and treated far more badly. Women and children were spared no mercy. It was as if these were criminals most vile and they were brought here for their final judgment. My people stood by, stunned at first  as comprehension and dread slowly took over us one and all at this continuing horror.  We made offers to help, to take care of some of the children at the very least and were rebuked with a rough warning to stay away.

The eldest of our village did then meet with the Doctor, who unlike the rough soldiers still greeted us with smiles and warm decorum. They spoke to him of our unease and reluctance to interfere in the commanders design. They pleaded with him in many ways that no matter the crime these were people and god would never ask of us to punish like this.
Later that same night as the moon rose full and red above us, the screaming began."
